How to Get Rid of Gnats in Your Liberty Hill Home

Liberty Hill Woman Swatting at GnatsYou wouldn’t want to imagine seeing your Liberty Hill rental house having a gnat problem. Even if gnats don’t bite or carry diseases, their presence is absolutely not welcome in a clean home. Ripe fruit, trash bags, and even potting soil are favorites for these pests. It can be difficult to remove them once they appear from nowhere. But not to worry, we have some sure-fire ways to keep these gnats out of the house for good.

Apple Cider Vinegar: One of the best ways to eliminate gnats without harsh chemicals is to use a mixture of apple cider vinegar, water, sugar, and dish soap. The sugar and soap combo serve to attract and trap the gnats. Wherever the gnats are gathering, leave a small bowl of this mixture.

Fly Paper: The flypaper is a low-cost and effective way to get rid of gnats. These sticky flypaper ribbons may not be the best looking option but it is very effective in trapping these pesky insects in your home.

Bleach the Drains: If you find a lot of gnats around the sink drains, chances are you have drain flies. To rid your drains and house of these pests, pour a mixture of bleach and water in the affected drains. In just a little while, savor the satisfaction of having a sink that is gnat-free once again.

Rotten Fruit: Having ripe fruit in your house is an invitation for gnats since these insects like them. Having this knowledge about gnats, we can actually use this to our advantage. Place a piece of ripe or rotten fruit in a bowl and cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap. Using a toothpick, poke a few small holes in the plastic. The flies are lured by the scent of the fruit and get trapped inside the bowl using the holes. Once it’s full, remove the bowl from the house.

Wine Trap: If you have some expired wine handy, you can use it to trap pesky gnats in the same way. In a small bowl, put wine and some dish soap. Leave the mixture where the gnats gather. The gnats are then trapped in the wine solution.

Bug Zapper: For a more aggressive option, use a bug zapper device to get rid of gnats. Bug zappers come in different varieties but mostly use electricity to zap flies, mosquitoes, and other flying insects. Strategically place the zapper in an out-of-the-way spot and plug it there.

Chemical Spray: But when the problem with gnats gets out of hand, insecticides would have to be the last resort. Both foggers and sprays can remove gnats without a problem but should be handled with caution. Also, always follow the manufacturer’s directions when using chemical insecticides.

With a lot of ways to eliminate gnats, you should be able to find the best solution to your pest problem. Are you interested in learning more about how to keep your rental house pest-free?
